Ask Dr B – about Stories We Tell Ourselves, Low Self-Esteem & Self-Sabotaging Behaviors - Episode 030

Welcome to the thirteenth Ask Dr B episode, and the thirtieth episode overall of Harness Your ADHD Power, a podcast show I created to explore the many facets of adult life with ADHD and how you can learn to harness your personal ADHD power to become unstoppable.

I’m so glad you could join me today for my podcast show.  I get SO excited to create episodes that you my listeners ask for.  You send me questions or issues that you are struggling with and ask for insights and solutions, which results in inspiration and another great episode.  You have no idea how happy that makes me; or maybe you do.

Based on Monday’s episode 029, I hope you all get just how important it is that we develop executive function skills; just not something we should skip over or take lightly.  If you haven’t listened to that episode yet, I recommend you do so you’ll understand what I mean.  There’s no short cut here.  These skills are...

Exploring Our Assumptions, Expectations, Shame & Guilt - Episode 029

Welcome to the twenty-ninth episode of Harness Your ADHD Power, a podcast show I created to explore the many facets of adult life with ADHD and how you can learn to harness your personal ADHD power to become unstoppable.

In this episode, I’m exploring our assumptions, expectations, shame and guilt as it relates to adult life with ADHD and helping you to move past it to a new found freedom.

The increasing numbers of adults living with ADHD-related impairments are not a trivial matter, and have far-reaching consequences for all of us.   Quality of life is less and the erosion of human potential is apparent.  So many adults report feelings of hopelessness and frustration.  This has to stop and be turned around now.

This is not simply annoying laziness or apparent lack of willpower or being scatterbrained or a bit disorganized, frequently late and excessively forgetful.  It is also not the extraordinary gift that endows the person with exceptional...

Welcome to the twelfth Ask Dr B episode, and the twenty-eighth episode overall of Harness Your ADHD Power, a podcast show I created to explore the many facets of adult life with ADHD and how you can learn to harness your personal ADHD power to become unstoppable.

I’m so glad you could join me today for my podcast show.  I’m keeping the pace lively and upbeat, so you don’t get into a rut and stop paying attention in the moment because you anticipate what’s coming next.  Good to keep things fresh.  Plus, this is good training in case you are one to jump to conclusions or assumptions and miss something important; wouldn’t want that to happen to you.

And since helping you to shape new behaviors is part of my intention here with the stories and action steps for you to take, I want to remind you that today’s success or lack of it started last night.  That’s right.  If you got a good night’s sleep, felt...

Figuring Out Where To Start When So Much Needs Your Attention Now - Episode 027

Welcome to the twenty-seventh episode of Harness Your ADHD Power, a podcast show I created to explore the many facets of adult life with ADHD and how you can learn to harness your personal ADHD power to become unstoppable.

I’m going to approach this topic of triaging all the urgent and important things in your lives with some introductory information and then move into my traditional format with stories, action steps and a favorite quote, as always.  This might go a little longer than my usual episodes because there’s so much to cover, so pace yourself.

What’s very important to note here is that there are going to be plenty of what I call “pre-skills” that you are going to need to learn in order to do those things that you want and need to do.  The “pre-skills” you will need are going to be very unique to you, as everyone’s missing different pieces of the puzzle so to speak.

As I’m mentioned in another episode, a...

Another common trait is being very curious; in other words, having lots and lots of questions!  That’s definitely me!!  Probably you too!  However, you might be a bit...

After the release of episode 023, I heard from many of you about the struggles you are having and how lost you are feeling as to how to get your life on track now, as well as take care of the things from the past that have built up over the years.  For many of you it's an overwhelming thought to even consider trying.

I get it; I do.  I had a lot of wreckage from my own past that I needed to clean up while still living my life going forward.  I learned that I needed to balance my time so that I spent the majority of my time focused in the present, and part of my time cleaning up the wreckage from the past.  If I had spent too much of my time focused on...

I’ve been hearing from more and more of you about how bad it’s been to live so much of your life not knowing about your ADHD, and what you could do to help yourself.  And I’ve also been hearing from loved ones and friends of adults with ADHD telling me they want to understand more about living with adult ADHD so they can be supportive of those they care about.

Well, that’s what I’d like to go after today and see what I can do about eliminating some of the needless suffering and misunderstanding that is tearing relationships and families apart, as well as having you think of yourself in a less than favorable way, to put it mildly.  Hearing so...

Task Completion Isn't The Same For Everyone - Episode 021

task completion Jul 03, 2017

Welcome to the twenty-first episode of Harness Your ADHD Power, a podcast show I created to explore the many facets of adult life with ADHD and how you can learn to harness your personal ADHD power to become unstoppable.

MAKE YOUR NEEDS KNOW TO ME! CLICK HERE to participate; takes just a few minutes.

If you’re like many of the adults with ADHD that I’ve known and worked with over the past 30 years, you have challenges completing tasks.  In order to complete a task, you need to know what the completed task is.  There needs to be criteria or something that tells you that you have finished it.

Now, it’s important to note that task completion doesn’t look the same to everyone.  What I say is the completed task of doing the laundry might not be what you say is the completed task of doing the laundry.  Who’s right?  We both are.  In other words, task completion can be a very individual thing.  The fine line...
